Lari contests election results Nov. 1992

Recount is only first step

Councilman Michael Lari challenged the results of the first ward election in which he lost to Michael Grecco by 92 votes, saying there have been improprieties.

Backed by the Secaucus Independent Alliance, Lari has hired Attorney Joseph R. Marinello to "Pursue every legal option available."

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Lari said 87 new registrations at Meadow View County Hospital and more than 30 geriatric absentee ballots may have influenced the outcome of the election.

"We are looking at people in a drug rehab who originate from Essex County and other places voting in our local elections," Lari said. "The potential vote in this election was in excess of 100 people."

Lari's letter said the erection of the Geriatric building with 360 new beds could expand 1st ward voting by 500.

"A recount is only step one," Lari said, noting there could be other irregularities as well.
